PHP believes successful programs and interventions start with a well-trained and competent workforce.
At Public Health Practice, LLC, we provide applied, competency-based public health training and mentoring to health professionals. PHP staff have participated in public health education programs covering a variety of topics to audiences in the US, Africa, and Middle East. Weeklong classes, training seminars, and workshops, or distance-learning webinars are taught by experienced and highly trained professionals and can be catered for individuals or groups.

Effective Oral Communications
This course is designed to convey the principles and practice of dynamic and persuasive techniques for oral communication of scientific information. Its goal is to develop competency in effective oral communication of scientific research using various ways and to diverse audiences. Course topics include:
- communications as an interactive process;
- persuasive vis-à-vis informative presentations;
- distinguishing data, information, and messages;
- analyzing a target audience;
- condensing complex messages into sound-bite size;
- effective approaches for the use of visual aids including PowerPoint™, tables, graphs, charts, and photographs;
- image matters; and
- strategies for dealing with the media.
No prerequisite.
Successful Scientific Writing
This course takes an active, participatory approach to help students in public health learn how to communicate the findings of their research and investigations more effectively and expedite publication of their manuscripts. Major components of the course include
- the basic sections of a scientific article: the purpose, elements and organization of each section;
- principles of style for writing in public health and epidemiology;
- systematic approaches to the process of writing and publishing an article in a peer review journal;
- effective strategies for dealing with requests of journal editors and reviewers.
e-Surveillance
This course is designed to convey the emerging practices and principles of public health surveillance in the 21st-century. The course will describe how new opportunities in governance, inter- and intra-agency collaborations, information and communication technologies (ICT), cutting edge analytic tools and techniques, novel data sources, and a dynamic workforce are fundamentally transforming the future of public health surveillance. This course will demonstrate how core functions of public health surveillance including detection, registration, confirmation, analysis, feedback, communication, and response, can be enabled, enhanced, and empowered by these new opportunities.
